throughout the U.S. and Canada. Position Description The Safety
Specialist shares their expertise to business leaders and line
managers on a wide variety of safety-related matters affecting
their business. This person will report to the CI Manager and will
be responsible for a broad range of safety activities including
safety management, facility safety audits to ensure compliance,
conduct safety training, participates in accident investigations,
and lead plant safety programs. The Safety Specialist will work
collaboratively with leaders and employees within VT Industries
corporate headquarters in the development and implementation of EHS
initiatives at the local level. Essential Job Functions: Organizes
and oversees monthly safety meetings by developing agendas,
researching, and presenting topics, and maintaining standard
site-specific trending reports of all relevant safety metrics.
Assist with worker’s compensation program, review monthly incident
reports, ensure plant compliance with completing OSHA 300 report &
ensure plant annual posting of OSHA 300A report. Assist site
leaders in trending near-miss incidents as leading indicators and
develop action plans to address. Provides oversight and
coordination for leaders of the Hazardous Communications Program
and Policy. Ensures that Safety Data Sheet compilation and
maintenance is current and complete at the site level. Guides
Right-to-Know labeling compliance. Coordinates EPA/RCRA compliance
as it relates to chemicals, and hazardous waste storage and
disposal. Ensures alignment between the Hazardous Communication
Standard, and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), as well as Tier
II reports. Establishes plant safety teams to address ergonomic and
job safety concerns, recordable/Dart and near-miss review/training,
hearing protection program, PPE evaluation, LOTO. Maintains a
Safety and Incident Database and Safety Inspection recordkeeping
system. Acts as site safety training coordinator for VT’s Learning
Management System (LMS), i.e., coordinates corporate training
topics, as well as site-specific training topics. Topics includes
OSHA Compliance Standard topics, e.g., Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), and
site call-out safety training topics (“above-and-beyond”
compliance; e.g., Flammable Liquids) based on site risk assessments
as they are related to the OSHA General Industry Standard. LMS
corporate safety coordinating includes safety content review and
approval, skill auditing, recertification training as applicable
per the OSHA Standard, and the safeguarding of all essential safety
training records and forms. Other duties as assigned. Position
Requirements Qualifications: Associate degree in safety, industrial
or occupational hygiene, or related field. One to three years of
experience in safety in a manufacturing setting. Good
communication, influencing, and consulting skills with a proven
track record in quickly gaining credibility, partnering
collaboratively with business leaders; and garnering support and
gaining consensus. Effective project management skills with high
attention to detail Solid interpersonal skills, effective
presentation and facilitation, team and leadership development,
conflict resolution, and influence skills. Collaborative
decision-making and work style and comfortable with working through
gray/ambiguous areas. Good problem solving and ability to assess
the needs of the business and design and implement the best
solutions. Capable of working with computer programs in Excel,
Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD Familiar with required testing
equipment (i.e., dosimeters, emissions, chemical exposure, confined
space entry, etc.) Completed, or willing to complete, 10-hour OSHA
