It is the sole National Poverty Research Center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is a complexly funded unit that oversees approximately $30 million in federal and non-federal grants and contracts annually. This position will assist in the management and processing of pre-award, post-award, and related transactions for grants and contracts at the Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP), providing life cycle research administration services to faculty and other principal investigators. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Administration and is part of a team that works to provide high quality professional service to IRP affiliates from a wide variety of departments and disciplines. The position is responsible for following Federal, State, University, Graduate School, and College of Letters & Science policies and procedures, and serving as a key liaison to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP). The position will also work closely with affiliates and other IRP staff to develop project budgets, oversee applications, prepare financial and other reports to funders, and ensure accuracy in semester and summer payplans and effort reporting. Bachelor's degree in Business, Research Administration, or related field; or Bachelors degree in unrelated field with relevant experience in research administration preferred. Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: Well-qualified candidates will have the following preferred work experience and skills: - Two or more years of research administration experience, including demonstrated knowledge of and experience with pre- and post-award functions, processes, rules, and regulations in a higher education setting. - Experience with general pre-award processing and/or non-financial compliance (protocols, conflict of interest, effort, research terms & conditions, etc.). - Knowledge of applicable University, State, Federal, and Non-Federal fiscal and administrative rules, regulations, and procedures governing the administration of extramural grants and contracts - Knowledge of, or ability to learn, UW-Madison policies and procedures for administering extramural support - Knowledge of, or ability to learn, electronic research administration forms, procedures, budgeting tools, and submissions through electronic interfaces. - Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of professional accounting. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to work under deadline pressure. - Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with diverse faculty, affiliates, staff, and students, and University and College administration. - Ability to remain highly organized, attend to detail, and manage a wide variety of diverse tasks. - Ability to engage in independent and creative problem solving.
