Electrical engineers at Sierra Nevada Corporation research, create conceptual designs, schematics, develop detailed designs, and interface with other design teams (mechanical, software, systems) as well as test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. In addition to design tasks, you will be responsible for requirements compliance, proper documentation, and providing support to internal manufacturing and test teams.

Applications include analog and digital based implementations of closed loop control systems, open loop electro-mechanical systems, motor drive and control, rocket engine controls and monitoring, LED lighting systems, data acquisition and control, communications, telemetry and health monitoring, and power management.

The candidate will also provide other electrical engineering support as necessary, including requirements development, communicating with suppliers and procurement, and participating in technical reviews (design, test readiness, manufacturing readiness, etc.) with design teams and customers. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, the ability to function independently in a technically demanding environment, and a willingness to work with a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams

  • Hands-on familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, etc.

  • Experience in analog and digital electronics design

  • Excellent communication skills required

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with an emphasis on meeting customer schedules

Preferred:

  • Exposure to simulations through functional and logical models and system analysis

  • Background in aerospace, defense, or medical electronics

  • Experience composing and analyzing Electrical Load Analysis (ELA),  circuit modeling, simulation, and analysis

  • Familiarity with electrostatic discharge (ESD) and lightning protection

  • Knowledge of industry-standard electrical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, electrical component selection, manufacturing, and production processes

  • Familiar with Electro Magnetic Effects (EME) to include, Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI)

  • Understanding of the printed circuit board layout process and tools

  • Experience with embedded systems, including microcontrollers and FPGAs, helpful, but not required

  • Experience with electronics design and analysis tools, such as Altium Designer and LTSpice
