The Director of Organizing must have strong organizational,
interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. They must be
motivated and able to work independently with enthusiasm for PPWI’s
mission. They must have a personal commitment to achieve the
agency’s Public Affairs’ objectives including integrating
organizing goals into the Public Affairs strategic plan. This
person must possess diplomatic skills and the ability to work
effectively with Planned Parenthood employees; outside consultants;
and extra-agency stakeholders. Ability to operate autonomously and
in concert with others.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, organizing,
political science advocacy or similar fields. Five years of
experience in grassroots organizing and civic engagement or
constituent education, with program development and implementation.
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which
comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be
considered. Must have demonstrated leadership or supervisory
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: Carries out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and
applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and
training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;
addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Oversee the development and implementation of PPWI’s outreach
and organizing strategy to build PPWI’s statewide power to
strengthen and protect people’s legal and constitutional rights to
access the full range of reproductive healthcare, including
Coordinate outreach and organizing strategies with government
relations, communications, civic engagement and legal
Build an organizing team that supports public affairs and agency
strategic goals, including assessing statewide opportunities for
growing PPWI power; prioritizing communities by evaluating local
advocacy environments, health center capacity, agency business
goals, demographic trends and potential for grass tops and elected

Delegate these responsibilities to other supervisors on the
organizing team as appropriate.
Responsible for compliance, quality and risk management needs of
the organizing staff, including 501(C)(3)/501(C)(4) separation.
Collaborate with other Public Affairs team members create the
Public Affairs strategic plan in alignment with PPWI agency
Keep agency leadership abreast of PPWI’s power building
Make strategic resource decisions in consultation with the VP of
Governmental Affairs and External Relations.
Assist Public Affairs and Development leadership with grant
writing, reporting and fundraising to bring in additional program
Provide analysis and recommendations for the Data and Analytics
staff to inform program evaluation measures and make program
enhancements/changes as indicated; ensure Organizing and Data
progress is reported regularly in grant reports, to the board and
PPWI leadership team.
Ensure data is effectively accessed and managed by at least two
additional staff internally via the Voter Action Network and
Catalist; collaborate with Data Staff to implement staff
Maintain working relationships with counterparts at affiliates,
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and other national
and state organizing and advocacy organizations.
Coordinate with the Campaign Manager and Public Affairs
Communication Staff to oversee the management of campaign
communication tactics within the overall organizing and campaign
Coordinate with Campaign Manager to oversee the management of
field campaign related vendor contracts.
Partner with the communications team to develop and implement
activist communication strategies, including creative work to
develop innovative tools.
Stay apprised of best practices in organizing and community
outreach. Provide Public Affairs team with recommendations to
increase effectiveness organizing and community outreach
