Job Description:

Madison College is seeking a Business Development & Solutions Representative for Business & Industry Services. The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients in both profit and non-profit settings to design and develop Corporate Training and Consulting services and programs. The candidate will have experience in developing proposals, facilitating meetings and trainings, project management, and business and organizational development. This is a full-time, exempt, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year position. Core hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Madison College offers a generous benefit program including health and dental benefits.

This position is located in the vibrant and diverse city of Madison, Wisconsin's 2nd largest city and state capitol. ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

This position cultivates and maintains key business relationships to secure business-to-business sales. Responsible for achieving revenue, margin, and customer satisfaction goals through maintaining relationships with existing customers, prospecting new customers, assessing customers' needs, developing proposals, and closing sales. This position also facilitates client planning sessions and meetings, retreats, seminars and classes. This position initiates, plans, develops, implements, manages, and evaluates business and industry customized training needs and acts as a project manager for complex, high-level projects and services that have competing priorities, timelines, and deadlines, as well as having a positive fiscal impact with a goal of full cost recovery for the college.

This position represents and promotes the college to area business leaders in order to bring learning and training engagements to their incumbent workforce and also responsible for delivering learning and training programs. This position develops and maintains collaborative relationships with instructors and service providers in all academic areas of the college. This position understands the area's economic environment and trends as they relate to various industries and corporate learning.

This position may be required to deliver services, which may include instruction and technical services to account for up to 40% of their time. This position requires frequent travel within the district to meet with business customers, as well as frequent communication at flexible hours.

This position reports to Director of School of Professional and Continuing Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1. Solicit new opportunities and respond to internal leads to procure contracts for assessments, customized training, and technical assistance through a business development and solution selling approach. Continuously promote the products and services through securing new business, maintaining customer relationships, providing on-going support, and serving as the primary point of contact with business client groups. Analyze the business development needs of clients in order to design value-added workforce solutions; may be short-term or long-term services to meet the needs.

2. Work in collaborative effort with department team toward shared sales goals and to share information on current clients, programs and their needs.

3. Develop, write and present proposals; create budgets; and write contracts to secure sales and attain cost recovery requirements.

4. Project Management: provide and ensure exceptional customer service and value-added solutions through the lifecycle of the client/provider relationship. Actively oversee and collaborate with Client Services staff during the fulfillment of contracts, adjusting the level of involvement to fit the level of complexity of each contract.

5. Efficiently track and maintain activities and tasks related to the solution selling and sales process. Maintain customer relationship management database with information, reports, and documents regarding client services and contracts.

6. Serve as college representative at local, regional and state business and economic development events, including providing presentations about the college and Business & Industry Services to community and civic groups as internal stakeholders as needed.

7. Provide training and technical assistance to contract clients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Expertise in business development, organizational structures and operations, sales, marketing and project management principles and techniques.

2. Knowledge of corporate learning trends and area business needs; ability to learn college programs and instructor resources; skill to bridge the trends and needs to the resources.

3. Ability to develop and nurture successful and sustained client and college relationships.

4. Ability to think strategically, balancing operational and systematic needs while creatively and innovatively developing acute and long-term workforce solutions.

5. Proven critical thinking, systems thinking, and problem solving skills.

6. Ability to provide responsive communication through a flexible schedule (in-person, electronically, and by phone) with hours outside of normal business hours and ability to drive frequently to attend events and meet with business clients throughout the district.

7. Strong analytical skills. Desired certifications include DiSC.

8. Knowledge of adult learning principles, current corporate learning trends, and educational methods and strategies. Be able to successfully facilitate classroom learning and technical assistance. Be able to develop adult learning course materials.

9. Ability to independently and effectively prioritize complex and competing needs; ability to work under pressure on a variety of multi-faceted, complex projects simultaneously.

10. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing Technology, Adult Education or a related field; or four (4) years (8,000 hours) of an equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the skills required to successfully perform this position.

*Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.*

2. Five (5) years (10,000 hours) of related work experience of which two (2) years should be in occupational work experience, two (2) years in coordination/project management experience, and one (1) year in conducting adult learning classes, activities and programs.
