Job Description:
The Government Affairs/Legal Assistant provides assistance to
multiple attorneys and/or public affairs directors in the daily
operation of practicing law and state/federal government relations
by providing high quality, confidential work product for clients.
The Government Affairs/Legal Assistant performs duties of complex
clerical tasks relating to specific functions and requirements as
set forth within practice groups using the firm standard word
processing and other applicable software.
Provide administrative assistance with a high level of
confidentiality through the performance of duties including: client
communication/direct communication with elected officials, document
preparation, scheduling, meeting planning and coordination etc.
Communicate Attorney's or Public Affairs Director's instructions to
various individuals; furnish and obtain information from other
individuals within the practice area
Create, organize and maintain client files, follow up on pending
matters, perform routine filing and retrieve files when
requested
Maintain physical and electronic client, research and
administrative files utilizing NetDocs
Anticipate business needs and prepare necessary documentation in
draft for review, including miscellaneous correspondence
Interact professionally and promptly with clients, internal and
external parties and respond to questions as necessary
Provide document production services, including styling and
formatting of documents, proofing, as well as utilize firm provided
resources to maximize efficiency
Prepare documents and packages for mail, messenger and overnight
delivery; ensure that all attachments, exhibits and enclosures are
intact
Assist with recording time entry information
Prepare expense reports and disbursements forms
Manage political giving account
Collaborate with other assistants from time to time as the need
arises
Other duties as assigned
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree or
Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and
Excel
Excellent typing ability of at least 65 words per minute
Prior experience working in a legal/government affairs setting
highly preferred
