Zendesk is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Email Infrastructure team. Email is Zendesk's largest channel that connects our customers' agents to their customers. We handle over one billion emails per month and are growing. Our team prides itself on providing superb reliability and uptime. We are a small but efficient team based in Madison, WI and Singapore that collaborates closely with many other global teams. Our infrastructure is built as code on AWS. Your role will be to help extend and improve Email-as-a-Service at Zendesk for internal and external customers. You will also help us continue to provide a great experience for our customers on this critical component of our customer offering by improving automations and deploy pipelines, as well as designing new systems and services.

What you get to do every day:-- Work collaboratively with a team of experienced engineers and in cross-functional teams within Zendesk. Deploy your code to production and improve the experience of millions of Zendesk users. Work with a modern technology stack: AWS Services, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, Golang, and Ruby. Use DevOps best practices: we build it, we run it, we own it. Participate in on-call rotations for services we own. What you bring to the role: Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience. Proven 5+ years of work history as a production engineer working on server-side solutions, or in a DevOps type role. Extensive experience on the inner workings of SMTP protocol. Managing infrastructure and applications that handle large volumes of mail at scale. Managing anti-spam solutions. Deep understanding of Internet fundamentals: network protocols, DNS, HTTP, TLS/SSL, load balancing, etc. Experience with AWS services (or their open-sourced equivalents) like SQS, Lambda, CloudFormation, Elasticache, EC2, Route53, etc. Proficiency with a programming language. Golang and Ruby preferred. Experience in support of distributed systems, with strong Linux administration knowledge. Experience working with container-based architectures: Docker, Kubernetes. A mature and pragmatic approach when choosing technologies. Communication skills: you're good at listening and speaking up.
