HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR Job no: 98598-AS Work type: Staff-Full Time Department: PUB MEDIA/DIRECTOR'S OFF Location: Madison Categories: Human Resources, Payroll, Management/Supervisory Position Summary: This position manages human resources for Wisconsin Public Media (WPM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This includes recruiting for WPM positions in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) requirements as well as staff development and training with a focus on issues specific to non-commercial media. The Director of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for executing a broad range of human resource management functions, including recruitment and selection activities, onboarding, staff development, performance management, compensation, employee policy and procedure development, in order to meet the division's strategic staffing needs. The HR Director plays a lead role in advancing HR policies and practices that reflect these priorities in order to support WPM's mission of providing excellence in service. The position reports to the Director of Wisconsin Public Media and manages a small WPM HR staff and Vilas Hall mail manager. Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 7 years professional work experience in human resources, preferably in a University environment. The position requires significant knowledge of, and ability to apply, human resources and employment theory, law, and practice. Knowledge of principles, procedures, and best practices for recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, compensation and benefits, employee relations, retention, and human resources information systems. Experience advancing HR policies and practices that promote an engaged, inclusive, and diverse work environment founded on principles of integrity, civility, trust and respect. Demonstrated success as a supervisor with an ability to create a team committed to customer service and excellence. Excellent, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to meet different audiences and situational needs. Proactive and proficient ability to diagnose problems and identify creative and appropriate solutions. Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations in a positive manner, including the use of negotiation and conflict resolution skills, to address employee challenges, issues and problems. Adept at managing complex projects and setting department priorities. Track record of successfully advising divisional leaders and managers on HR matters while maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all organizational levels.
