We have an opening for an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber with our Prescribers group!?The Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) will work as an integrated member of his or her respective treatment team to provide medical assessment and monitoring of consumer needs. The APNP will provide clinical consultation to other team members on-site or via telepsychiatry to other Journey Mental Health Center (JMHC) locations. Under the direction of the Medical Director and in collaboration with medical staff, the APNP will be responsible for the medical aspects of clinical care within the team, including both initial assessments and follow-up visits.?
While the focus will be on medical and medication decisions and monitoring, medical staff may also be expected to perform general nursing duties at times. Most of the clinical interventions will occur within one of the JMHC buildings, although some may occur out in the community. It may also involve weekend or evening shifts as necessary to enable the program to extend its hours of operations. The position is responsible to the Medical Director and to the manager of the various programs in which he or she works.?

The APNP reports directly to the Medical Director. This position is included in the Professional Bargaining Unit.?

  • ANCC Board-certified as either a Psychiatric/Mental Health CNS, or NP
  • Certification across the life-span
  • Able to perform a diagnostic, AODA and risk assessment
  • Able to work with the other clinicians and the client to develop a treatment plan
  • Meets appropriate state licensing requirements to provide clinical services
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to function collaboratively as part of a team, seeking and accepting consultation when appropriate
  • Commitment to working towards improving cultural sensitivity as demonstrated by valuing difference/diversity, recognizing limitations in personal competencies and expertise, and having concrete ideas about how to improve cultural awareness, knowledge and skills
  • Commitment to work towards consumer involvement and empowerment within a recovery focused model for delivering care
  • Commitment to work with clients with both mental health and AODA issues
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, a?favorable?driving record, adequate insurance (per state law) and access to a vehicle.PREFERRED
    • Demonstrated expertise in providing cross-cultural MH services
    • Experience in providing telepsychiatry services
    • Clinical experience in crisis intervention/emergency mental health service
    • Bilingual, and/or bi-cultural (Spanish/Hmong/Cambodian/American Sign Language)Typical Physical Demands
      Requires driving, sitting, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching; and the ability to use and operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, phone, printer, cell phone, facsimile, etc.
      Working Conditions
      May require evening or weekend hours depending on program and consumer's needs.

    • Medical Responsibilities
    • Perform medication evaluations and reviews, prescribing medications when appropriate, following JMHC guidelines, and in collaboration with other JMHC clinicians and physicians.
    • Perform initial assessment for the need for psychotropic medication.
    • Perform appropriate risk assessment, AODA assessment and mental health assessment as indicated
    • Prescribe and monitor medication as appropriate
    • Order and interpret laboratory and other medical findings as appropriate
    • Provide follow-up monitoring based on JMHC policy and procedures
    • Perform basic medical screening as needed and appropriate, working with JMHC clinical staff and primary care and other medical providers to help coordinate medical and mental health care and ensure that needed medical care is provided.
    • Participate in the organization and operation of the clinical programs in which the APNP operates.
    • Help coordinate medication orders with other clinical staff, RN and other prescribers
    • Help to prepare medications for dispensing when needed
    • Give injections to JMHC clients when needed
    • Assist with Patient Assistance Program paperwork as needed.
    • Provide information and consultation to other JMHC staff and to clients regarding medications, in collaboration with JMHC psychiatrists.
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Non Medical Responsibilities.
    • Perform risk assessments and crisis intervention as needed
    • Make autonomous decisions in life-threatening situations when necessary
    • Develop treatment plans that reflect an understanding of the individual's own values and beliefs about his/her current situation and what would be helpful.?
    • Maintain accurate clinical notes of all contacts
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Work actively and positively to maintain good working relationships between the different clinical programs of JMHC
    • Work to improve own cultural competence: participate in the development and implementation of program strategies to continue to improve the cultural competence of the program's services
    • Work to foster a consumer focused, recovery oriented services that seeks to involve consumers in their own care
    • Attend program staff meetings and required in-service training events, except when taking scheduled time off
    • Participate in JMHC work committees as requested
