Job Description:

Role Purpose: -- The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing patient care in an ambulatory setting.-- The LPN duties may include:-- taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination procedure, sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications and screening telephone calls related to patient care using set protocols and standing orders as resources and consulting with a RN or medical provider for situations outside of established protocols.-- The LPN may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit. -- Dean Clinic offers a one time sign on bonus of $3,000.00 to part time and full time Medical Assistant, LPN and Paramedic new hires. -- Responsibilities: -- 1.--Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming standards. 2.--Performs or assists with department procedures. 3.--Demonstrates and understands sterile and aseptic techniques.-- Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure. 4.--Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results. 5.--Completes Laboratory and Medical Imaging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.-- 6.--Transports patients to other departments and acts as a courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records. 7.--Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion.-- Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.-- May initiate maintenance IV solutions only (see sect. 7a). a.--A LPN may initiate adult IV therapy using maintenance IV solutions to include LR or 0.9%NS only under the direct supervision of a RN, physician or advanced practitioner in designated areas.-- Formal training must be completed and demonstrated annual competencies documented within the designated department prior to initiating IV therapy. 8.--Screens telephone calls related to patient care a.--Obtains appropriate information with attention to detail and accuracy. b.--Uses set protocols/standing orders as resources to implement appropriate care. c.--Consults with an RN or medical provider regarding situations outside of established protocols. 9.--Reinforces the teaching protocols established by the RN or medical provider and provides basic health care instruction. 10.--Performs delegated nursing or medical acts beyond basic nursing care under the direct supervision of the RN/Medical provider. 11.--Cleans, prepares and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures. 12.--Depending upon location and/or department may be responsible for performing the following responsibilities: a.--Basic computer scheduling, rescheduling, canceling and coordination of appointments. b.--Auditing of charge tickets for 24 hour turnover and manages nursing work ques by providing procedure and diagnosis codes. c.--May act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.-- This will include:-- documenting history and exam, entering diagnoses, orders (medications, labs, imaging, consults, etc.), diagnoses, E&M, follow up and patient instructions.-- The LPN will then review instructions and goals and print the visit summary for the patient.---- 13.--Assists in emergency situations. 14.--Participates in site process improvement teams. 15.--Cross train and staff other departments as needed. 16.--Performs other duties as required. Required: State Licensure or eligible for State Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or must receive credential as a Medical Assistant within one year of start date.---- Acceptable credential includes Registered Medical Assistant (RMA, through the AMT organization only) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).------ Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program. Pleasant, outgoing personality Good communication and organizational skills Preferred: Experience with an electronic medical record (i.e., Epic) Relevant clinical experience. Essential Physical Functions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.-- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and to move quickly between tasks. Ability to hear and converse on the phone and in person. Ability to see fine print and to use the computer. Ability to perform fine motor tasks, such as when working with instruments, taking blood pressures and performing other patient care tasks, writing, computer or phone tasks. Ability to safely lift up to 20 pounds and to push/pull up to 100 pounds when working with equipment, pushing wheelchairs or assisting with patient handling tasks.-- Ability to bend/twist and crouch when performing various job tasks. Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with blood borne pathogens or other chemicals. Ability to wear a respirator/mask. Depending on Specialty and Dept. Additional Essential Physical Functions May Include: Ability to wear a respirator. Depending on location, the ability to safety drive a personal vehicle on a daily basis may be required.
