Description The purpose of the Director of Public Health is to
plan, direct and supervise Sauk County Health Department and
perform Health Officer duties as described by Wisconsin Statutes
and County Ordinances and is mandated to protect and promote health
while preventing disease and injury through policy development,
community assessment/education and assurance of high quality
services. Essential Duties Provide immediate needs and long-range
planning for adolescent health, cardiovascular disease risk
reduction, chronic disease surveillance, communicable disease, day
care health, disaster preparedness, environmental health,
environmental human health hazards, home health care programs,
immunization clinics, newborn home visit, prenatal care, public
health nuisance, school health, well child clinic, and Women
Infants and Children and Nurse Family Partnership and the Older
Americans Act Nutrition and Prevention Programs.
Direct oversight of all Health Department divisions.
Draft and oversee all department policy and program goals and
prepare and/or approve department policy and procedure manuals.
Interview, train, direct, advise, monitor, evaluate, promote, and
discipline department employees, and approve payroll and leave
Assist with drafting and implementing departmental training and
in-service programs.Prepare and monitor annual department operating
Prepare or monitor grant application process.
Review and monitor financial reporting procedures for compliance
with county, state, and federal requirements.
Act as County Health Officer with responsibility for communicable
disease control and environmental health; direct communicable
disease control measures; monitor communicable disease outbreaks;
direct and monitor prevention measures and symptom recognition
education; direct human health hazard prevention, detection and
Plan and direct department outreach efforts; interpret department
service functions to general public and legislators through news
releases, public appearances, person-to-person, and media
Maintain programs and documentation to assure continued Health
Department and National Accreditation status.
Act as Health Department Public Information Officer (PIO) in a
public health emergency.
Coordinate partner participation in Community Health Needs
assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan. Additional Tasks
Assess community health care needs through health statistical
Perform oversight of Public Health preparedness program and
participate in local, regional, table - top and full scale
exercises for emergency preparedness.
Draft annual department report, health programs news releases,
newsletter editorial material, pamphlets, memos, face book and
twitter account and Website etc.
Perform coordination and over site of on -going departmental
Strategic Planning, and Accreditation process.
Create and maintain Public Health "Quality Improvement Team".
Participate at local level in coordinated functional group
activities and in county interdisciplinary team meetings.
Participate in the Sauk County Comprehensive plan health care
Act as Executive Manager of new Public Health Records Management
Software Program by approving additional project purchases as
needed, assisting with all interface decisions, and identifying
goals for the implementation of Allscripts products with an
understanding of the required process.
And other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Education Required: Master's degree in Public
Health Administration or another related field with 3 years of
public health program administration and supervision experience;
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Environmental Health,
or anotherrelated field with at least 5 years of public health
Licenses/Certifications: Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator's
Preferred: 5 years of public health program administration and
