The outreach specialist is responsible for planning, developing and implementing the health communications and public health education activities for the Wisconsin Asthma Program and the Wisconsin Climate and Health Program. Working closely with program staff, the incumbent will develop and manage strategies for increasing awareness of both programs. The Asthma Program works to improve the reach, quality, effectiveness and sustainability of asthma control services and to reduce asthma morbidity, mortality and disparities by implementing evidence-based strategies. The Climate and Health Program works to better understand how climate change impacts public health in Wisconsin and uses this information to create strategies, tools and trainings to help communities prepare for health outcomes related to climate change using the CDC's Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework. The outreach specialist will lead activities related to health communications and public health education as specified in the CDC's Asthma Control and Climate and Health cooperative agreements as identified by the Section Chief and program leadership. Specific activities will include: revising and maintaining the communication plans for both the Asthma Program and the Climate and Health Program to include DHS website content, printed outreach materials and other outreach avenues; implementing social marketing and data visualization best practices to create and disseminate program-specific behavioral communication products and messaging for outreach materials (e.g., fact sheets, infographics, etc.); maintaining program websites; tracking dissemination activities through monitoring of DHS website and usage of posted materials (Google analytics); contributing communications and education content to annual cooperative agreement applications and interim progress reports to secure and maintain program funding; serving on the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition Advisory Committee, Climate and Health's Science Advisory Team and other appropriate teams; and leading efforts to collaborate with other environmental health and chronic disease control initiatives.
