Job Description:

The Director of Business Development for the Propulsion and Environmental Systems Business Unit has the primary role and responsibility is to identify, create, nurture and track high-probability opportunities into projects that align with the strategic and tactical objectives of the Business Unit and Product Lines of the company, including managing customer and partner relationships. The Director is responsible for developing strategy with the VP of Programs and Product Line Directors. The Director directly reports to the BP of Business Development with execution reporting to the VP of the Propulsion and Environmental Systems Business Unit.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify, create, monitor, track, and close funding opportunities/priorities, and develop relevant capture management plans and budgets against the strategic goals
  • Identify, track, and communicate competitor positions and developments
  • Maintain estimates of future orders forecasts based on funding and win probabilities
  • Make contact with customers and partners to initiate, qualify, and advance opportunities to proposal/quote stage
  • Develop and deliver proposals and quotes working with SBU technical team to establish scope, plan, and budget
  • Work with customer through the stage of project implementation
  • Work with customers to maintain and expand next generation projects
  • Develop budgets and funding opportunities with customers
  • Assist clients in identifying funding sources
  • Develop marketing and Business Development materials
  • Plan and Implement Business Development marketing activities
  • Work closely with Corporate and Strategic Business Unit Leads to accomplish above responsibilitiesMetrics of performance will include a combination of:
    • Meeting goals of Business Development plans (e.g., revenue generated, # proposals submitted, specific wins, advancement of opportunities) within budget and schedule
    • Win percentage of proposals/quotes
    • Ability to fully interpret customer needs and desires and integrate into project solutions (with technical personnel)
    • Backlog of project work
    • Overall profitability potential of bid programsCommunication Skills:
      • Demonstrated writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
      • Has good grasp of grammar and sentence structure for technical writing.
      • Listens/gives constructive feedback.
      • Good group interaction and facilitation skills.
      • Ability to determine plan from goals, and follow plans and priorities.Creativity/Problem Solving:
        • Demonstrates ability to interpret market needs and develop solutions for customer problems and issues --- identify and exploit SNC value for customers
        • Analyzes data and information using standard, straightforward methods.
        • Grasps technical concepts and asks for clarification and direction when needed.Technical Expertise:
          • Ability to interpret and project customer needs and map solutions for which SNC can provide niche value
          • Ability to research through networking and over the internet business opportunities relevant to aerospace business unit priorities
          • Marketing & market planning knowledge
          • Excellent customer relations skills
          • Technical knowledge of aerospace markets, customers, and competition
          • In-depth knowledge of target market industriesAdditional Requirements:
            • Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours
            • Other duties as assignedCompliance Responsibilities:
              • Responsible for ensuring Capture Management and Planning/Tracking compliance within their BU
              • Responsible for thoughtful adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance regulations (internal and external)
              • Responsible for timely execution of all personnel-related activities such as Time Sheet completion, Performance Evaluations (Anniversary and Annual), Salary Reviews, Succession Planning, etc.
              • Responsible for leadership oversight and for ensuring Department/Team training and adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance Regulations (internal and external)Essential Functions:

                  • Candidates for this position preferably have an advanced degree at the masters level or higher and must have 10 years of experience in the business unit designated areas of primary support
                  • The position requires knowledge and understanding of NASA and civilian space markets, commercial space markets, Department of Defense military services, and program and acquisition procedures.
                  • A-- background in civilian business development, proposal development, program management and team building is desired
                  • Candidates must be able to understand customer product requirements,-- operational concepts , and with the assistance of appropriate technical personnel,-- translate those-- into feasible technical solutions to be explained to both technical and nontechnical audiences
                  • The position requires the ability to work autonomously and independently as well as with a group to develop business strategies, contacts, solutions and plans
                  • The individual must be a self starter of unimpeachable integrity
