About the Team The Data Management Division is a relatively new division comprised of a growing, client service-oriented team. We are business-centric working closely with the investment management and operational teams to anticipate and meet their complex information and reporting needs. In partnership with Technology, we are transforming SWIB into a premier data driven organization. The Investment Data Manager will be a seasoned leader to transform the way data is controlled, managed and retained to allow SWIB to better leverage data to make effective business decisions. SWIB has a multi-dimensional, multi-asset, complex investment strategy, requiring this position to lead a team to steward millions of data elements across multiple key dimensions within a complex Data Management Framework where data is sourced and consumed across multiple systems and platforms and at varying times. Under the direction of the Data Management Director, the Investment Data Manager is responsible for leading SWIBs data team in implementing and managing SWIBs data management practices. As such, the position is accountable for day-to-day investment data quality that is supported by a federated model comprised of business data owners and data stewards, business process staff, technology and third-party service providers. This role is responsible for the output of a team of data experts that consists of SWIB personnel and different areas of the organization to ensure implementation of and compliance with data governance principles, policies and standards. The individual must be an advocate for data governance, develop and implement data quality processes and measurements, support the onboarding of new data and manage data vendors and data tools and systems. Essential activities: Organization Wide Data Governance Program Development and Evolution Partner with business groups across the organization to develop strategies to support business needs leveraging existing technologies and identifying direction for new technologies. Build out and continuously enhance SWIBs Data Governance program. Drive business requirements that support business data needs. Work with the Investment Information and Reporting team, IT and business intelligence partners to drive our data governance architecture. Actively manage the cost of SWIBs data assets through effective vendor negotiation and timely onboarding and retirement of those assets. Day-to-Day Data Quality Oversight and Compliance Manage a team responsible for the enterprise data governance culture that ensures critical data is available, reliable, consistent, accessible, secure and timely to support the mission and activities of SWIB. Leverage technology data infrastructure to execute on requirements to create and support control processes for data quality initiatives. Collaborate with various business areas to plan and execute on strategic projects and other initiatives affecting data quality and the procurement of new data. Anticipate and understand the impact/implications of projects to data quality. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred 10 years of relevant investment management experience in data management, data quality, data architecture development or data science. Experience must include supporting complex, multi-dimensional actively managed investment strategies and both structured and unstructured data. Extensive knowledge of the investment industry, including financial instruments, investment strategies, processes and relevant data. Knowledgeable of investment management industry best practices, investment data and investment systems, including quality data models, security mastering and modeling; single source of trust relative to data warehousing, retention and control and enterprise change control processes. Experience with data systems and tools, including data warehouses (Eagle PACE, Markit, etc.), Data Dictionary and Lineage applications. Experience with reporting tools such as SSRS and the Eagle Reporting suite preferred. Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, R, Tableau, FactSet or Bloomberg a plus. Knowledge of and experience with business intelligence tools, such as Tableau and PowerBI. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
