PPD applies innovative technologies, therapeutic expertise and a firm commitment to quality to help customers bend the cost and time curve of drug development and optimize value in delivering life-changing therapies to improve health.--Our GMP lab in Madison, WI carries out CMC testing following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) for all types of pharmaceutical products across all phases of development. Our highly qualified GMP lab scientists work with small molecules and biologics, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), drug products, inhaled products, cell and gene therapies and drug-device combination products.We have an opening for a--Manager, Environmental Health and Safety, who is--responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety programs in our Middleton, WI laboratory facility and for facilitating a collaborative approach to implementing programs with site management. Our facility has 400,000 sq feet with 1,600 employees and will manage 1 direct report within EHS (there is a separate facilities team).-- Ensures safe practices and regulatory compliance in all assigned facilities.-- Responds to and provides follow-up to health, safety, and environmental issues to site management.Ensures that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved.Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis.-- Maintains and monitors waste manifest system.-- Completes reporting forms regarding hazardous waste for all required regulatory agencies.Develops and conducts employee health and safety training programs.-- Develops and implements refresher training for various health and safety topics as required by the regulations. --Conducts regular walk-downs and yearly self-assessments of assigned facilities and conducts employee health hazard exposure monitoring to ensure compliance.-- Makes recommendations to site management based on results.Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner.-- Makes recommendations to site management on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance with these regulations.Develops and updates all health and safety related mandated procedures for assigned facilities.-- In addition, ensures that procedures meet federal, state, and local requirements.Works through the corporate office to supply information on work-related injury/illness investigations.-- Oversees all ergonomic related issues and makes recommendations as appropriate.Additional duties may include leading Health & Safety committees, act as Radiation Safety Officer, maintain controlled substance program, evaluate/maintain all safety equipment, coordinate fire drills and/or work with assigned site on inspections or audits. --Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualificationPrevious experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8 years') or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.Experience with biomedical environment; laboratory, clinic, pharmaceutical or health-care setting highly preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of US EHS regulations, ICAO, NRC and other applicable regulations Knowledge of laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations.Knowledge of ergonomics and how to conduct evaluationsKnowledge of air monitoring strategies.Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training.Good problem solving skills.Knowledge of worker's compensation requirements.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Good judgment and business acumen.Good computer skills.Ability to travel to other locations as needed Management Role: Directly supervises individual contributors, administrative support and / or entry-level professionals. --PPD values the health and well-being of our employees.
