AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION Job no: ******-AS Work type: Staff- Full Time Department: VCRGE/WAISMAN/WAISMAN Location: Madison Categories: Health Care, Medical, Social Services, Research, Scientific Position Summary: The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 14 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical bio?manufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future. The AAC Director is in the Developmental Disabilities and Genetics Clinical Services operational unit within the University Center for Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). This position reports to the UCEDD Director and is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of AAC projects within the UCEDD. The AAC Director identifies and secures extramural funding for AAC-related direct service, outreach and research through grants and contracts. The AAC Director establishes partnerships with key UW-Madison departments including the Departments of Kinesiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and AAC related programs such as Engineering. The Director participates in regional and national networks on planning and program development. Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: Well-qualified applicants will have the following required experience: A minimum of five years of experience using a range of low and high technology AAC systems; possess clinical skills in evaluating and treating individuals of varying ages (children and adults)who need AAC with diverse, severe disabilities and multiple impairments. Knowledge of AAC-relevant funding sources; skills in program development and management including, fiscal management, human resources management, strategic planning, quality improvement and analytical problem solving; research and evaluation. Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and managing committees, project teams, and workgroups. Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience: Prior experience in the planning, writing and editing of grant and/or contract proposals. Prior experience in securing extramural funds. Prior experience as an independent research investigator. Experience serving as a principal investigator. Prior graduate or staff/faculty in a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) funded training program such as LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities). License or Certificate: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Wisconsin in Speech Language Pathology (SLP). Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) required. Additional Information: Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter within 5 days of notification. Occasional evening, weekend work and travel. Must complete Preventing Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence at UW-Madison training. Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting. A caregiver background check will be conducted in addition to a criminal background check. Physical Requirements: Individuals must be able to perform tasks that require medium effort, such as exert effort to lift, carry, push or pull up 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force on a frequent basis. Must have the ability to perform tasks that may require to bend, twist, lift and assist with transfers without additional assistance. Must have adequate physical strength to assist with resistive activities. Must maintain a current SLP license.
