EHS Engineer
Location: ROTO facility
SUMMARY: Engineering is a vast and growing field comprising of
several branches of operation, one of which is health and safety
engineering. It is also known as safety engineering and focuses on
the safety of products and processes in a working environment. A
health and safety engineer is responsible for developing new
solutions to identify and minimize potential threats or risks.
The job of health and safety engineers requires meticulous planning
and implementation of safety programs to prevent unsafe working
condition. These engineers generally work with various
organizations for designing and installing safety devices. Such
engineers use their knowledge in prevention of disease or injury,
or any kind of damage to the property. This role reports to the COE
Director and has a dotted line to the Director of EHS.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Machine Guarding Evaluation & Design
Develop & Maintain Corporate Risk Assessment Model
Work closely with Maintenance/Plant engineering on validation of
Equipment Safety Systems
Define/evaluate/manage critical process controls
Serve as machine-safety expert and harmonization facilitator
Corporate-wide
Lead incident investigations as needed & track corrective actions
to closure
Assist EHS Management with Job Hazard Analysis
Auditing/Refinement
LOTO Program Leader - Develop, Review, & Audit Procedures as
Needed
Support Process Safety Management (PSM) Program
Capital Expenditure EHS Project Planning & Implementation
5S/Facility Improvement (Collaborate with Process Engineering)
Manage Corporate Machine Safeguard and Pinch/Nip Point
Inventory
Serve as subject matter expert for technical EHS training
development
Assist in developing corporate machine guarding expectations per
OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other relevant standards
Actively participate in and assist EHS Management with Management
of Change Process (MOC) and incident investigations
Support Site EHS Management on projects and/or injury case
management as needed
Other Duties as Assigned
Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

TRAITS WE BELIEVE MAKE A STRONG CANDIDATE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a Technical Field (Chemical
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
(3)+ years' work experience in engineering, environmental health &
safety, or similar.
Bachelor's degree preferred in engineering, environmental health &
safety, or similar.
Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, NFPA standards and regulations in general
industry
Experience in machine safeguarding design and technology
Process Safety Management experience preferred
Project management experience
Risk assessment experience
Strong knowledge of hazard identification in the workplace
Familiarity with flammable liquids handling, grounding & bonding
preferred
Ability to travel as needed for corporate-wide projects
Strong communication skills, team dynamic
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively
present information predominantly technical in nature and respond
to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
public.
Skillful in presentation skills both in preparation and delivery is
preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Good general computer literacy and ability to learn new systems for
ERP, project management, specification control, and the like. Also,
competency in standard Microsoft programs and internet
research.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency
distribution, determination of test reliability and validity,
analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and
factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
