Join our team at Scientific Protein Laboratories (SPL), a world leader in biosourced pharmaceuticals, located just outside of Madison, Wisconsin in Waunakee! SPL is an innovative biopharmaceutical leader with unique products and services supporting the pharmaceutical industry globally. For over 40 years, SPL specializes in the development and cGMP compliant manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). SPL has an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Controller.



Working with the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller oversees the accounting activities of the organization. This includes financial statement preparation, facilitating financial audits, managing the cost accounting function, partnering with outside firm on tax compliance and strategy, and administering internal control policies.



Responsibilities include:

• 
  
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accountingtransactions
  
• Consistently produces accurate financial statements
  
• Coordinates activities and provides support to external financial auditors for annual audits
  
• Prepares and oversees timely completion of required monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
  
• Manages tax provision and tax compliance work handled by outside firm
  
• Oversees cost accounting function
  
• Development of accounting personnel
  
• Identifies opportunities for improvements and efficiencies while offering and implementing solutions
  
• Works with finance team to provide timely variance analysis
  
• Manages treasury function
  
• Ensures company assets are properly protected through risk management program
  
  
  
  
  Additional Responsibilities
  
  
  • 
    
  • Serve as resource for other US-based entities within ownership group
    
  • Assist in other areas- including HR and Legal
    
  • Identifies, monitors, and helps address risks/realize opportunities
    
  • Drives integration of accounting and finance functions
    
  • Identifies financing solutions and assists in negotiation of lending arrangements
    
  • Helps determine roles and responsibilities for members of the accounting team
    
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
    
    
    Job Requirements and Qualifications:
    
    Excellent management and supervisory skills. Continuous improvement mentality. Able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Advanced organizational and time management skills. Comfortable with cross-functional communication and collaboration directly to team members (non-territorial). Preferred certified Public Accountant or certified Management Account Designation.

    • Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related required.
      
    • Experience: 10 plus years of managing accounting function required.
